🚀 COURSE CONTENT
Our Basic Observations (Basic Obs) course is designed to expand your clinical skill set and boost your confidence in patient care. Whether you’re working in a clinic, community setting, or supporting home visits, this hands-on training helps you recognise early signs of patient deterioration using NEWS2 scoring.
You’ll learn how to take and interpret the full range of basic vital signs, gaining an understanding of both normal values and what abnormalities may indicate.
Topics include:
💉 Measuring blood pressure (manual and digital)
🌡️ Taking accurate temperature readings
❤️ Monitoring heart rate
🫁 Assessing respiratory rate
🧠 Understanding levels of consciousness
🩸 Measuring blood oxygen saturation (SpO₂)
⚖️ Recording weight and height
🧪 Performing urine dipstick analysis
You’ll also practise taking real-life observations on classmates and gain insight into what high or low readings might mean in a clinical context.

⏰ TIMINGS
This is a half-day face-to-face course.
There’s lots to pack in, so come ready to focus! The course starts at 09:30, and depending on group size, usually wraps up by 12:30 or 13:00.
It is scheduled in the morning, just before our CPD ECG Interpretation course — perfect if you’d like to make a full day of it.

📜 ACCREDITATION
Our courses, provided by iN phlebotomy training, are CPD certified and internationally recognised.
This course counts as 5 CPD hours.
